Barbara is a business sustainability executive helping organizations implement solutions that are good for the planet and good for business. She applies a business oriented approach using the same technology and program management skills used at MCI and Verizon to launch VoIP in Europe and build global networks. She also uses financial skills acquired early in her career as a CPA at Arthur Anderson. In 2008, Barbara made the transition from the telecom industry to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Since then she has helped nonprofits, schools, small businesses, and homeowners implement sustainable and energy efficient solutions. She is currently working with the Northern VA Regional Commission (NVRC) to set up a network of Sustainability and Energy directors from local municipalities and large corporations in the Northern VA region to share best sustainability practices. She is also an advisor to the award winning Arlington Energy Master Program and chair of the Sustainability Advisory Committee for Arlington Public Schools where the district is currently building a school anticipated to be the first Net Zero School on the East Coast. Recently Barbara completed work with the Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) where she managed the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program and the Dominion Power Residential Home Energy Check-Up Program helping over 1,700 homeowners improve the comfort, health, and performance of their homes. Barbara lives in Arlington, VA with her husband, Kent Brown, and her teenage twins, Sara and Spencer.
