The Green Advantage PCRA/ICRA Professional Certificate Program is purpose-built for construction and maintenance personnel working in healthcare facilities.

It uniquely integrates Pre-construction Risk Assessment (PCRA) and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) into a comprehensive training and assessment program that prepares participants to manage risks during new construction, planned renovations, routine maintenance, and emergency repair activities.

Graduates are equipped to help protect patients, healthcare workers, visitors, and construction personnel while supporting safer, more resilient healthcare environments.

Pre-Construction Risk Assessment (PCRA) & Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA)

Healthcare construction isn’t like working on any other job site. The stakes are higher, the regulations are stricter, and the cost of getting it wrong — for patients, for your team, and for your bottom line — is significant. The PCRA/ICRA credential equips your people with the knowledge and protocols to get it right.

The program focuses on determining and complying with PCRA/ICRA protocols and best practices for healthcare facility construction and maintenance — including hazard identification, infection control measures, risk mitigation strategies, and regulatory compliance with standards set by the Joint Commission and the CDC.

Training is delivered asynchronously online and divided into 16 modules. Each module includes a section of the Training Manual read aloud with illustrations, followed by a short set of questions you must answer correctly before advancing. You can complete all 16 modules in one day or spread them out — one module a day for 16 days, for example. Total training time is 12 hours.

The Training Manual and asynchronous training were developed by two educational instructors, Maruja Torres-Antonini, PhD, and Matthew Sweirtz, MS, NCIDQ. The program is overseen by the Green Advantage National Healthcare Construction Credentialing Board.

You must complete 12 hours of GA-authorized training and pass the exam following completion of training. There are no prior education or experience requirements — the only requirement is that you complete the training and pass the exam.

The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions with a 90-minute time limit. It is administered online through remote live proctoring. After completing training, you will receive a link to schedule your exam. Rescheduling must be done at least 48 hours in advance to avoid a $50 rescheduling fee.

Exam retakes cost $50. Upon request, Green Advantage will provide a listing of concepts to review based on the items you answered incorrectly, so you can focus your study before retaking.

The program — including 12 hours of online training, the Training Manual, and the exam — costs $500 per person.

Live training is $650 per person, with a minimum of 10 trainees per session. Training is delivered in person, with the option for participants to join the session live online. Fees are subject to change.
