Lorna Bravo is UF/IFAS Broward County Extension Director at the University of Florida. She is also the founder and president of Design-Build Green Integration Consulting Company focusing on performance Green Building Consulting. Lorna has more than 17 years of architectural experience in both public and private sectors. She has been responsible for initial project programming, planning, conceptual design development, construction documents, construction administration and sustainable design.
Lorna earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from The Cooper Union, in NY, a Master of Science in Construction Management from Florida International University and is currently pursuing her Ph.D in Horticulture Science at the University of Florida, researching water conservation in the built environment. She is a LEED Accredited Professional BD+C, CGP, CGA, and a Green Advantage Certified Practitioner.
Lorna’s passion for sustainable design is evident in her work. She currently volunteers her free time as an advocate for sustainable design and is leading green efforts within her local community. As Past Chair of The South Florida Emerging Green Builders, she was directly connected with the voice of our local municipalities, students, young professionals, planners, builders, and architects who will lead and teach future generations of the importance of sustainable building. In 2010, Lorna was certified as a Florida Water Star Certifier. In 2011 she certified the first Gold Florida Water Star Home in the Miami Dade County area, and in 2012 she certified the first Gold FWS commercial property, ”Fire station 22” in Martin county Florida. Lorna teaches environmental design classes focusing on water conservation at The Green Urban Living Center located in Miami Dade North Campus Community College and online webinars for Green Advantage certifications. Lorna serves in the first South Florida Yards & Neighborhood advisory board committee to assist in the process of evaluating FYN current programs in the South Florida community and helps develop future workshops/training opportunities focusing in water efficiency, Florida Friendly landscaping and LEED certification. In 2013 she received the Outstanding Extension Volunteer Award from Miami Dade County.
Lorna believes the green building movement offers us an unprecedented opportunity to respond to the most important challenges of our time, and she is extremely excited to be part of this challenge.
